Cameron & Barkley Company records, 1866-1990.

Collection consists of correspondence, financial and property records, general business records, and printed material. Also included are records of the Carolina-Florida Realty Company, mostly dating to the early 20th century, which pertain to property transactions in Charleston (S.C.) and Florida. Printed material chiefly consists of catalogs (1903-1968) for machinery, mill supplies, plumbing fixtures, automobile supplies, and other products. Catalog 77 (1941) includes some company history and related photographs. Letterpress copybooks of business correspondence date from 1866 to 1887. Of note in a company history scrapbook is an agreement (1867) between John Fraser & Company and Cameron & Barkley to sell the latter "all the scrap iron at Hampton Plantation near Columbia." The scrapbook also includes biographical and genealogical information on Archibald Cameron and Rufus C. Barkley.

Cameron & Barkley was first established as a "general supply business" in Charleston, S.C. in 1865. The founding partners were Archibald Cameron (1813-1881), and Rufus Calvin Barkley (1829-1898), the son of Hugh Barkley of Winnsboro, S.C. The company opened a branch in Florida around 1907.
